Sabriya Yaqubi, and her daughter Hasti, 2, wait in the Caritas Athens Refugee Centre, in Athens, Greece. The family are from Afghanistan and live in a refugee camp in Athens. They regularly visit the soup kitchen in the centre. They have 2 older children aged 14 and 16 who are currently in Germany having travelled there unaccompanied. It has been 10 months since the parents last saw their 2 oldest children and the Caritas Athens Refugee Centre is now helping the family to get reunited in Germany.

This year, thousands have fled countries in northern Africa and the Middle East seeking asylum in different parts of Europe. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Caritas are scaling up their humanitarian relief efforts to address these growing needs in Serbia, Macedonia and Greece. This is part of the Balkan Refugees – Migrants Response project.
