The sunrises over Qaru Village, Tanzania. Severe soil erosion had depleted the land and created huge ravines that overfilled with rain water. The problem began to reverse when the community contoured the hill to prevent future erosion. The Catholic Relief Services’ funded ridging and contouring of the hill was done by the local community and helps protect the hill from future erosion while helping redirect rainfall into underground aquifers.
