Women in Jawani village utilize a community borehole that was constructed with support from Catholic Relief Services in Ghana.

Access to clean water is an important component of Catholic Relief Services’ EPPICS program in Ghana, which focuses on improving Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and Nutrition services. CRS is partnering with Water Access Now to construct boreholes that provide communities with clean, potable water in Jawani village.

In Ghana, Catholic Relief Services’ water, sanitation and hygiene programs focus on holistic community development programming and engage a variety of stakeholders, including the government, churches and community faith-based organizations.

From 2004-2013, CRS Ghana was awarded ,370,000 to implement water supply and sanitation programs, including Guinea Worm eradication and improved water, sanitation and hygiene in schools. Water Access Now has actively supported these activities by providing funding to construct boreholes and engage with community members to operate and manage these facilities in a sustainable manner.

CRS has helped establish Community Sanitation Advocacy Groups. These groups support and supervise household latrine construction as well as the distribution of materials for tippy taps construction.

CRS’ EPPICS program is funded by USAID and private funds.
